Lyric :

🎵 Let’s sing along with the lyrics! 🎤

Why do birds suddenly appear
Every time you are near?
Just like me,
They long to be
Close to you.

Why do stars fall down from the sky
Every time you walk by?
Just like me,
They long to be
Close to you.

On the day that you were born the angels got together
And decided to create a dream come true.
So, they sprinkled moon dust in your hair of gold
And star light in your eyes of blue.

That is why all the girls in town
Follow you all around.
Just like me,
They long to be
Close to you.

On the day that you were born the angels got together
And decided to create a dream come true.
So, they sprinkled moon dust in your hair of gold
And star light in your eyes of blue.

That is why all the girls in town
Follow you all around.
Just like me,
They long to be
Close to you.

Just like me,
They long to be
Close to you.

Why? Close to you
Why? Close to you
Ha, close to you
Why? Close to you

About The Song :

In 1970, Richard and Karen Carpenter experienced a successful year, marked by their chart-topping hit “(They Long To Be) Close To You” in the US. Despite a slow start with their interpretation of The Beatles’ “Ticket To Ride,” they eventually reached No. 1 with the Bacharach & David composition. The success continued with their British breakthrough, a version of a song recorded by various artists but untapped in its potential. The Carpenters’ rendition reached No. 6 in the UK, making a cautious start before surging into the Top 10 and maintaining a presence in the Top 20 for several weeks.

Despite their transatlantic success, the Carpenters didn’t immediately dominate the UK charts. The “Close To You” album reached only No. 23, and they had to wait two more years for their second Top 10 single, “Goodbye To Love,” backed with “I Won’t Last A Day Without You.”
