“I’m Sorry” is a 1960 hit song by American singer Brenda Lee. Ronnie Self and Dub Allbritten wrote this song and Brenda sang it when she was 15 years old. Upon release, the song reached number one on Billboard’s Hot 100 singles chart in July 1960.

Brenda started her career when she was just 6 years old. Born and raised in a low-income family in the Georgia red clay belt, she became the family’s main breadwinner.

According to information found in Fred Bronson’s “The Billboard Book of Number One Hits”, Brenda Lee recorded this song in early 1960. However, her record label Decca Records suspended its release. . Do it for a few months. They do this because they worry that Brenda is not mature enough to sing a song about unrequited love.

Additionally, her record label also questioned the legality of having a teenager sing about such passionate love affairs of the heart. As a child star, these were the issues that Brenda and her record label faced.

“I’m Sorry” by Brenda Lee was the first example of a song that had what people call the “Nashville Sound.” It’s a sound that focuses on the lead singer’s voice, stringed instruments, and backing vocals. Many consider it a combination of country music and pop music with a touch of doo-wop. This type of sound was pioneered by Columbia Records and RCA in the mid-1950s.

The classic hit song has also entered popular culture. The sample song for the song Sweet Valley is called “Hypomania”. Beyonce’s 2016 tour, titled “The Formation World Tour”, also used this song as the opening song. The song was also featured in episode 3 of the Netflix series The End of the F***ing World and played at the end of Richard Linklater’s tape.

Despite delays in “I’m Sorry”‘s release due to problems with 15-year-old Brenda, it became a huge hit. This is definitely one of Brenda Lee’s best songs that you should listen to at least once in your life.

Let’s sing along with the lyrics! 🎤

I’m sorry, so sorry
That I was such a fool
I didn’t know
Love could be so cruel
Oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-yes

You tell me mistakes
Are part of being young
But that don’t right
The wrong that’s been done

(I’m sorry) I’m sorry
(So sorry) So sorry
Please accept my apology
But love is blind
And I was too blind to see

Oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-yes

You tell me mistakes
Are part of being young
But that don’t right
The wrong that’s been done
Oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-yes

I’m sorry, so sorry
Please accept my apology
But love was blind
And I was too blind to see.
