Lyric :

🎵 Let’s sing along with the lyrics! 🎤

One, two, tree o’clock, four o’clock rock
Five, six, seven o’clock, eight o’clock rock
Nine, ten, eleven o’clock, twelve o’clock rock
We’re gonna rock around the clock tonight

Put your glad rags on, join me, hon
We’ll have some fun while the clock strikes one
We’re gonna rock around the clock tonight
We’re gonna rock, rock, rock ’till broad daylight
We’re gonna rock, gonna rock around the clock tonight

When the clock strikes two or tree and four
If the band slows down we’ll yell for more
We’re gonna rock around the clock tonight
We’re gonna rock, rock, rock ’till broad daylight
We’re gonna rock gonna rock around the clock tonight

When the chimes ring five, six and seven
We’ll be right in seventh heaven
We’re gonna rock around the clock tonight
We’re gonna rock, rock, rock, ’till broad daylight
We’re gonna rock, gonna rock, around the clock tonight

When it’s eight, nine, ten, eleven too
I’ll be goin’ strong and so will you
We’re gonna rock around the clock tonight
We’re gonna rock, rock, rock, ’till broad daylight
We’re gonna rock, gonna rock, around the clock tonight

When the clock strikes twelve, we’ll cool off then
Start a rockin’ round the clock again
We’re gonna rock around the clock tonight
We’re gonna rock, rock, rock, ’till broad daylight
We’re gonna rock, gonna rock, around the clock tonight

About The Song :

In 1954, Bill Haley and His Comets unexpectedly recorded the iconic rock and roll anthem “(We’re Gonna) Rock Around The Clock.” The recording session was originally intended for another song, “Thirteen Women (and Only One Man in Town),” chosen as the A-side by their new record label, Decca. With time constraints and frustration over the primary song, the band hastily recorded two takes of “(We’re Gonna) Rock Around The Clock.”

The first take was too loud, almost drowning out Haley’s vocals. Facing the limitations of the era’s recording technology, the second take was done with minimal accompaniment. A Decca engineer skillfully spliced segments from both takes to create a cohesive version. Initially released as the B-side to “Thirteen Women” in May 1954, the single sold decently but not remarkably.

The turning point came when a 10-year-old, Peter Ford, son of actor Glenn Ford, discovered and loved the B-side. The song gained widespread attention when it was featured in the opening credits of the teenage-delinquency drama “Blackboard Jungle,” starring Glenn Ford. This exposure catapulted “(We’re Gonna) Rock Around The Clock” to pop sensation status, selling a million copies in a single month in the spring of 1955 and cementing its place as a seminal moment in rock and roll history.
