🎵 Let’s sing along with the lyrics! 🎤

Say goodbye my own true lover
As we sing a lovers song
How it breaks my heart to leave you
Now the carnival is gone

High above the dawn is waiting
And my tears are falling rain
For the carnival is over
We may never meet again

Like a drum, my heart was beating
And your kiss was sweet as wine
But the joys of love are fleeting
For Pierrot and Columbine

Now the harbour light is calling
This will be our last goodbye
Though the carnival is over
I will love you till I die

Like a drum, my heart was beating
And your kiss was sweet as wine
But the joys of love are fleeting
For Pierrot and Columbine

Now the harbour light is calling
This will be our last goodbye
Though the carnival is over
I will love you till I die
Though the carnival is over
I will love you till I die

About The Song :

“The Carnival Is Over” by The Seekers reached #1 in both the Australian Charts and the UK Singles Chart, becoming the group’s best-selling single in the UK with 1,400,000 copies sold. The song was written by Tom Springfield, who based the melody on the Russian folk song “Stenka Razin,” depicting a Cossack rebel leader’s 17th-century rebellion. The Seekers continue to perform the song at the close of sporting events in Australia. Unfortunately, Judith Durham couldn’t perform at the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games closing ceremony due to a hip injury. The lyrics reference Pierrot and Columbine, characters from Italian dell’arte theater, symbolizing fleeting joys of love. The Seekers, a Melbourne folk quartet, achieved international stardom with hits like “A World of Our Own,” “Morningtown Ride,” and “Georgy Girl,” blending pop-friendly folk with fresh and energetic sound, capturing the musical zeitgeist.
